I know! This mommy has been missing in action, BIG TIME! I took a short break from blogging and enjoyed reading a few great books throughout the holidays instead! Speaking of the holidays… I hope you all had an awesome Christmas and New Year’s with family and friends!
Christmas was great for our family this year. One of the best, if I may say so! Ever since I can remember, our WHOLE family always celebrates Christmas Eve together at my mom’s place. Brothers and sisters and relatives who have their own places start arriving at around 6 or 7 and we all talk or sing the night away `till we all go around hugging each other at midnight! Then we have our traditional Noche Buena (Christmas dinner) then we open gifts right after. Then we’ve got our usual photo shoot per family. Here are a few of my favorites this year:
Yes, I’m hugging that “vintage” photo of my sister and my brother-in-law because they’re in Canada. We don’t want them to feel all left out, so we always make sure to include their photo in the pictures we take!
We were also thinking that this Christmas would be even more special because of Skype! They could finally see us and we could finally see them! BUT….we were all so disappointed coz for some reason, the connection was just so bad on Christmas Eve. So all we managed to do was just a short call on my mobile phone and that was that.
The next morning we had a video call set with my Aunt in Washington. I was hoping and praying that the connection would be better and that everything would be as smooth as possible. With technology this advanced nowadays, what could go wrong, right? Well, quite a lot actually! It took us forever to connect (and that’s not an exaggeration) and the video call kept on dropping out. By the 4th or 5th time it dropped, it got really frustrating.
Don’t get me wrong, I love how we can video call our friends online for free and all and trust me when I say I love how technology is nowadays but this mommy who was raised in the 80’s misses good old land lines!
Do you remember those days? I DO!!! Lots of awesome memories on the phone with my mom and dad who were in Hong Kong, while my brothers and sisters were here in the Philippines studying! They didn’t seem so far away when all I had to do was pick up the phone and call them.
I miss calling on landlines. I was just telling one of my friends this the other day. I miss walking around the house with a cordless phone, talking the night away, taking the conversation I was having around the house. Good times.
So obviously we don’t have a land line at home anymore. Thinking that since we all have mobile phones and then we can go online at night anyways, we no longer needed it. But come to think of it, I’ve wished far too many times for us to have one again. A big part of it is because I want to call my son as often as I can when I’m at work. And…I want him to have memories as a kid calling me mom at work all the time. (Yes, because I have loads those snapshots in my head!)
That being said, for the first time in years, I looked up what PLDT is up to. I wondered how things work nowadays, you know, applying for landlines and stuff and boy was I surprised to see how easy it is now!
I was on www.pldtonline.com for quite a while checking out what else they were offering, or if there were any good deals worth sharing with you guys (you know how I love sharing about great deals and products for families!) Apparently, our family abroad can apply for our land lines online!!! How awesome is that right? If they do, they actually get a $2 rebate. Pretty good, yeah?
Hhhmmm…I’d better tell my sister about this. Hehe. That way, she won’t waste credits calling me on my mobile when I’m out, when she really wants to talk to our mom. And…maybe while she’s checking that deal it, she can send a birthday cake for Kristo too! He’s turning 5 on Saturday!! (I’ll tell you more about that next week!) Oh and yes, you can buy a cake and so many other gifts on www.pldtonline.com too! It’s a trip to have it all in one site!
So yeah, the net isn’t all that bad after all – especially if it helps give us an ‘old school’ experience of calling on a landline!
