I’d like to end the week still talking about birthdays! No, no more kidnap stories and no more blogs ending with “find out what happens next, tomorrow!” 🙂 None of that in this post.
Today I’d like to honor two beautiful, inspiring women who are dear to me. God has used them to help me learn to walk in faith, to walk with our Heavenly Dad…
I met Acel Bisa-Van Ommen in 2000. She was still with the band Moonstar88 and I used to be at most of their gigs. Acel was really nice to me since day 1. She would be ever so gentle and soft spoken. I saw how she remained pure in her actions when she and her then-boyfriend-now-hubby Danny Van Ommen were going out. They actually amazed me for many reasons! I was there when they kissed for the very first time at the altar. Knowing THAT was huge for me!!!
Acel would be the type of friend who’d be brave to say that Jesus loves me. Whenever she would start talking about Jesus, I’d do or say whatever to stop her. Quite frankly, I didn’t want to hear what she wanted to say. To make the long story short, I persecuted her, big time (apparently!).
Two years ago, when I accepted Jesus Christ into my life, I remembered her. I was ready and I wanted to go to church and get to know more of this Jesus she was talking about years ago. So, after years of probably not calling her, I rung her up and asked her if she was still going to church (I didn’t know how else to start). When I told her that I wanted to go to church with her, she screamed, and I think (if I remember right) she was even jumping up and down!
The first Sunday I went to church with her and Danny, we both cried. She told me how she had my picture up on her corkboard for 6 years. She was praying for me all those years. A month before I called, she was just led to take my picture down! Cool, huh? Since that Sunday, we started meeting up every week as she told me more about this new life I’ve been given. I’ve learned soooooo much from Acel. She has been an awesome, supportive friend and “mom” 🙂
When I first started hanging out again with Acel, she told our small group about Barbie Almalbis-Honasan‘s love story. It was just too good to be true. A year or so later, I got to hang out with Ate Barbie since we had quite a number of common friends. I eventually got to ask her, first hand, about their love story. First bit by bit as we hung out, but more so when I got to interview her and Kuya Martin Honasan for our Valentine’s special show on The Edge. I can listen to their story over and over and over and never cease to be amazed at how God brought them together!
Seeing Ate Barbie, how she is as a wife and a mother, inspires me so much. The way she explains so many things so objectively has been refreshing. AND…I’ve never seen any woman sooooo passionate about guitar effects! Listening to her has taught me quite a few things about effects — even if I don’t even play the guitar!!!
Ate Barbie and her hubby Kuya Martin have been so generous to me and my son in soooo many ways. (THANK YOU!!!!) One thing I am most grateful to her is how she told me about the beauty of homeschool. My son and I have benefited A LOT since we made that move.
I can go on and on and on about Mama Acel and Ate Barbie!!! But for now, I just really want to say THANK YOU so much for your friendship, for your love and for being there 🙂 I am so blessed to have you as sisters! I pray for more beautiful songs that will will touch so many hearts……and…….I pray for more beautiful babies too!! 🙂
Seeing how God has written both your love stories has inspired me to wait for God’s perfect love story for me (and Kristo) and my future hubby. 🙂 You both inspire me so much, as a woman and as a mother…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMA ACEL and ATE BARBIE!!!!
I LOVE YOU BOTH!!!
GOD BLESS YOU HEAPS!!!!
