Mom and Dad’s “you’re all grown up card” and the Extremely Colorful Birthdays I’ve had!

Time for card # 6, something from mom and dad for my 21st birthday! (just a quick intro to the first time readers of this series. My birthday is in a few days and to celebrate life and love and my birthday, I’ve been uploading cards I’ve received thruout the years. Hope you get to check out the other cards and posts after you read this one!)

scan0011scan0010Translation of what my mom said in this card: Now you’re old enough to decide on what you want to do with your life..always remember that we’re right behind you…and always take care of your self.

Both mom and dad were wishing me a good future in this card.. I wonder if they talked about that message.. Well, this was my first birthday right after graduating from college, so I guess it was more or less like pushing me out into the ‘real world’ ….

Anyway, thought I’d give you a rundown of what my birthdays have been like since I plunged into the “real world”

21st birthday: I hope I’m remembering this all right. I had just gotten out of the hospital because of a miscarriage 3 months into my first pregnancy… and I think my college boyfriend gave me our engagement ring on my birthday. Less than a year later, we called the wedding off and went our separate ways.

22nd birthday: I was at the hospital, being treated for severe migraine. My attacks used to be crazy, they’d have to inject pain killers coz pills no longer had any effect on me. Kristo’s dad and I had just started seeing each other around that time, and he was at the hospital on my birthday – and did what he did best, pull pranks on everyone – specially the nurses! It was around this time too that I met his daughter for the first time..she was 2 and a half years old…

23rd birthday:  I was in Bothell, Washington with my Auntie’s family. I was 4 months pregnant with Kristo. (I’ll talk more about this tomorrow!)

24th birthday: Manila. A mommy, taking care of 2 kids. I was working full-time at a call center too. I was a certified home maker.  On the morning of the 20th, I got off work from the night shift at around 5 or 6 am, went straight to a 24 hour grocery store, then went home to cook spaghetti for my birthday, then dressed up the kids coz it was our daughter’s school presentation, then went to her school and I think I finally got to sleep in the afternoon. It was an extremely busy day, but my mom was there to help me out. Kristo’s dad was in the states that month…

I bought that cake for myself! haha! :)

25th birthday:  I was in London. The firm I worked for prepared a birthday cake for me….

Then to celebrate that weekend, I got my hair cut and colored. Hair color: RED. I was ready to party…but the night didn’t go well at all. (The next part of this story is something I’m not proud of but I didn’t want’t to leave this part out. Just being honest. This is who I was.)  I was extremely smashed at a club called The Cross in London. The place was literally shaped like a cross. It was crazy….and I’m gonna stop here. Details of that event not needed. I’m sure you get the picture.

26th birthday: Owie’s world. I was in bed, paralyzed, in my tiny apartment in Marikina. I had just gone thru a major spiritual attack, a demonic oppression, and at that point, I could no longer move or function like I used to. Aside from being totally weak and feeling that I was gonna die anytime…a memory stands out as I write this. Kristo’s dad and I were obviously no longer together by then. I need to mention this because the memory that stands out now is his girlfriend bringing me my birthday cake that day and telling me that if I needed any help, they were there for me. (If you ever get to read this, I want you to know that I appreciate what you did that day – I appreciate it more now than I did 3 years ago. Thank you.)

27th birthday: San Jose, Nueva Ecija (a province here in the Philippines). Celebrating a new life. I was on my first ever mission trip with a team from Hawaii. On the day of my birthday, we went to a gymnasium to feed around 500 kids. The kids then sang the happy birthday song for me. I was in tears. The team I was with also managed to surprise me that evening with a little party. I totally didn’t expect it! If you guys are reading this, again….THANK YOU!!!

28th birthday:  You gotta wait `til Thursday for this 🙂

Meanwhile…here’s another kiddie photo for this series…
